The first step for treatment is isolating the cause and problem

Acne develops when hair follicles become clogged with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria, causing inflammation, breakouts and deeper lesions beneath the skin.

It can return and get worse with common acne triggers like hormonal fluctuations, excess oil production, stress, lifestyle factors and genetics.

When acne persists, it can lead to pigmentation and scarring, which will require more specialised and advanced treatments to improve skin texture and clarity.

To determine which treatment will be your best path forward, our medical aesthetician, Dr Imogen, will review your medical history and assess your skin type. The next step will be to visually examine the skin

Dr Imogen will closely examine:

• Your skin, to determine the type of acne scars (e.g., atrophic, boxcar, ice pick, rolling, hypertrophic).
• Overall skin texture, elasticity, and pigmentation will be assessed to determine the best treatment options.

Photos may be taken for documentation and to track progress.

Treatment for acne can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months.

Based on the assessment, Dr Imogen will discuss tailored treatment options, such as:

• Microneedling: To stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture.
• Chemical Peels: For exfoliation and resurfacing.
• Laser Therapy: To target deeper scars or uneven pigmentation.
• Dermal Fillers: For filling in depressed scars.
• Subcision: To release tethered scars.
• Topical Treatments: Obagi for mild scarring or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

I am so very impressed with her abilities to be not only very thorough but also very gentle.  She is well skilled with her tools.  Nothing hurt at all.  She also asked me all the right questions regarding my daily at home care but also so informative.
