Fast & Effective Treatments for Acne, Acne Scars & Large Pores

Suffering from breakouts, congestion, inflammation, post-acne marks, scarring, large pores or uneven skin texture? The good news? You don’t have to rely on an overcomplicated 12-step skincare routine and wait for results.

At Aventis in George Town, we offer fast, effective options for clearer skin with professional acne treatments that target active breakouts, congestion, large pores and acne scars.

  • Acne treatments take 20-45 minutes
  • Target breakouts, scarring and active acne
  • Course of 3-5 appointments typically required
  • Minimal downtime and quick healing
  • Results that build gradually

Your first step should be a professional skin consultation with Dr Imogen Bexfield

To get started with acne treatments, our clinic in Grand Cayman can invite you in for a free consultation with our dermatologists and licensed aestheticians to assess what your skin actually needs, because while active acne and acne scarring are related, they’re not the same problem, and treating the conditions will vary.

The best treatments for active acne

Active acne appears as blackheads, whiteheads, inflamed spots, pustules, and deeper under-the-skin blemishes. Treatment at Aventis focuses on reducing skin congestion, bacteria and inflammation to support and create a healthier skin barrier.

BBL light treatment

  • Quick 15-30-minute appointments
  • Little to no downtime
  • Targets acne, redness and pigmentation together
  • Usually recommended as a course
  • Results build gradually

Forever Clear BBL is a high-tech, non-invasive 3-step light therapy option for skin that’s inflamed, congested or uneven in skin tone. It uses controlled pulses of light energy that target specific structures within the skin to destroy acne-causing bacteria, treat active acne and pustular acne and prevent future breakouts with minimal downtime.

  1. Blue light destroys acne-causing bacteria in the pores and sebaceous glands.
  2. Yellow light reduces inflammation, redness and deeper lesions.
  3. Infrared light stimulates the skin’s healing process and minimises oil production.

The average BBL treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes, involves minimal pain and allows you to return back to your daily activities practically immediately. We recommend an initial series of 3-6 treatments spaced around 1-2 weeks apart for optimal results. See before and afters.

Chemical Skin Peel

Medical-grade chemical peels

  • Helps clear congestion and remove dead skin cells
  • Can improve acne, pigmentation and enlarged pores
  • Encourages collagen production and cell turnover
  • Several days of peeling may occur
  • A course of treatments delivers the best results

Medical-grade chemical peels are not like typical facial peels; they work much more deeply. They treat acne (and scarring) by using high concentrations of Salicylic Acid (BHA), Glycolic Acid (AHA), or Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), which penetrate deep into the pores, dissolve dead skin cells, reduce inflammation, and fade dark spots.

At Aventis, we offer two peels specifically targeting acne, like TCA peels and The Perfect Peel:

  • The Perfect Peel combines TCA, salicylic acid, kojic acid and retinoic acid, which break down sebum and debris inside the pores, making it effective for blackheads, whiteheads and cystic acne.
  • A medium-depth TCA peel may be chosen for more noticeable texture, acne marks, or scarring by dissolving dead skin cells, controlling oil and boosting collagen production.

As you should expect several days of controlled peeling, they’re not the best option to book immediately before a major event, so expect a short social pause before benefiting from the post-peel freshness.

Professional, medical-grade skincare

  • Accelerate skin cell turnover
  • Improve skin texture and colour
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Create brighter, healthier skin

In some cases, the easiest and most appropriate treatment can be carried out at home with medical-grade skincare, which uses advanced products selected to control your skin condition rather than fads and what’s trending online. Typically, we’ll recommend professional skincare alongside in-clinic acne treatments to support long-term results.

At Aventis, we carry dermatologist-approved Neostrata formulations, which address acne, uneven skin tone, texture, and provide sun protection.

The skincare routine we put together for you may include targeted cleansers, exfoliating acids, moisturisers and serums as well as sun protection. The aim is not to use the strongest possible product. It is to create a routine your skin can tolerate consistently.

The best treatments for acne scars

Once active breakouts are controlled, the focus and treatment can shift to post-acne pigmentation and acne scars, whether deep ice-pick, rolling, or boxcar scars, to treat red, pink or brown marks and target shallow dips and deeper indentations or uneven areas caused by changes in collagen.

microneedling

Microneedling with PRP

  • Best suited to uneven texture and indented scars
  • Stimulates natural collagen production
  • PRP may be added to support repair
  • Results develop gradually as fresh collagen forms
  • A treatment course may be recommended

Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can produce highly effective results for atrophic acne scars and uneven skin texture by creating controlled micro-injuries into the skin, while at the same time using your own concentrated growth factors to stimulate new collagen and elastin to plump indented scars.

  • A small sample of blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP and growth factors.
  • Microneedling then creates hundreds of minuscule punctures to penetrate the PRP deeply.
  • The skin’s healing and remodelling process is supercharged.
  • Recovery takes 3-5 days with some minor redness, swelling and peeling.

A treatment course of 3 to 4 sessions, spaced around 4-6 weeks apart, is recommended. Collagen-building gradually over 3 to 9 months, making the treatment less of an overnight transformation and more like a steady skin upgrade. The treatment is generally safe for all skin types, but is not recommended for patients with cystic acne.

Polynucleotide treatments

  • Targets skin quality and repair
  • Suitable for acne scars and uneven texture
  • Sessions take approximately 30-45 minutes
  • Minimal downtime
  • Results build over six to twelve weeks

Polynucleotide treatments are regenerative injectables that use DNA-derived molecules to stimulate collagen, reduce inflammation, and regenerate skin on a cellular level. Rather than just add volume, they also aim to improve skin quality, making them highly effective for repairing acne scarring and skin texture, as opposed to stopping active breakouts.

The sessions take around 30-45 minutes with minimal downtime, where a biological repair process activates to fill in and smooth out sunken or depressed scars. At Aventis, we advise the treatment being carried out over 2-3 sessions, spaced over 3-4 weeks apart, with results becoming visible over 6-12 weeks.

While polynucleotides can improve skin quality, they might not be the ultimate cure for severe, deep rolling or ice-pick acne scars, and our dermatologists might recommend combining them with resurfacing treatments like fractional lasers or microneedling to remodel scars as effectively as possible.

Laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation

  • Improves tone and texture
  • Encourages collagen production
  • Can target pigmentation and post-acne marks
  • Sessions typically take 20-45 minutes
  • Treatment must be selected for your skin type

Laser treatments for acne scars work by using concentrated light and controlled energy to encourage skin renewal and collagen production (non-ablative) and remove the damaged top layer of skin (ablative). Sessions take 20-45 minutes, with a course of 3-5 sessions being recommended to treat atrophic depressed scars, like rolling or boxcar scars.

But laser is not one-size-fits-all – the correct device, intensity and treatment schedule matter. At Aventis, we offer several laser and light-based options, with treatments being tailored to a patient’s skin type, concern and goals:

  • The Moxi Laser is a non-ablative fractional laser that helps improve the appearance of mild acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture.
  • SkinTyte Laser is a skin-tightening and collagen-boosting treatment that uses infrared light to improve mild acne scars and minimise pores.
  • BroadBand Light (BBL) and Forever Young BBL target acne scars, reduce redness and hyperpigmentation, and stimulate new collagen.

Which treatment works fastest?

It depends. A light or BBL treatment may offer a relatively quick route to clearer-looking skin with little downtime, whereas a peel creates more visible surface renewal but requires several days of flaking. Collagen-stimulating treatments such as microneedling and polynucleotides can take longer because the skin needs time to repair and remodel.

Plus, the fastest treatment is not automatically the best.

The best plan is the one designed around:

  • Whether acne is still active
  • The depth and type of scarring
  • Your skin tone and sensitivity
  • Any existing pigmentation
  • Your tolerance for downtime
  • How quickly you need to look event-ready
  • Your current skincare routine

In most cases, the best approach typically combines treatments, for example, controlling active acne with skincare, peels or BBL before moving on to microneedling, regenerative injectables or laser for residual scars.

Can acne scars disappear completely?

Acne scars can often be significantly softened, but it is important to be realistic.

No ethical facial aesthetics clinic should promise completely poreless, filtered-looking skin. The aim is to make scars shallower, improve texture, reduce discolouration and help the skin reflect light more evenly.

The degree of improvement depends on the type and depth of the scars, the treatment selected and how consistently you follow the recommended plan.

Newer, milder scars may respond more quickly. Deeper or more established scars usually need a combination of treatments and several months of collagen remodelling.

What should I avoid when treating acne?

A few habits can quietly sabotage your progress:

  • Picking, squeezing or repeatedly touching spots
  • Using multiple strong acids at the same time
  • Scrubbing inflamed skin
  • Skipping moisturiser because your skin feels oily
  • Treating scars while active acne is still uncontrolled
  • Forgetting daily broad-spectrum sunscreen
